You know, when they say that you become like five people you most spend your time with, it makes me wonder — if spending time with yourself, do you become more You? So why do we every so often striving to become one when this is what we are anyway? Because when you think about it, isn’t it kinda cool that we can get some privacy while walking around in these human suits? Even if illusionary.
Fast and prayer are personal.
There are three ways to do a long-term fast. Spiritual fasting is the absence of something, a conscious act that can shift you in the state of being. And being a practice like any other, it is there to get that You closer to God. Or to feel that God within you. Same thing. When going through a fast, it is good to remember that there’s nothing mandatory in it — religious guidelines help and are there for a reason, yet you make the rules. Still, fast is not a tryout. Let it come to you. And when it does, it doesn’t need to be 40 days in a desert, although it can be, but maybe a day without meat, phone, words, etc., to get a taste of it - all ways possible.

Fasting for health
Firstly, there is a difference between water and juice fast and juice or a smoothie. When drinking purely liquid, it will give the digestion a break and help the body into a healing mode, so it will no longer have to do the heavy lifting and therefore has a chance to look around to see what needs repairing. Expect side-effects. The first three days are the hardest, as the system starts to reorganize itself. Hunger pains, headache, edginess — that all is likely to occur. Followed later by possible nausea, lightheadedness, and different kind of eliminations (physical and emotional). All part of the process. Like losing hunger when we get ill, it will also naturally disappear after the third day when everything in the body slowly starts to normalize. Don’t be surprised to have an awful taste in your mouth when the tongue gets coated white. It will clear itself up by day 21. And the deeper you go, be sure to meet your healing crisis when forgotten issues may recur. Know that this is not a miracle cure for every disease, but when nothing else has helped, then why not give your body the chance to help itself? And remember, the fast is over when hunger returns.

Fasting for creativity. Besides the fact that it helps your intuition, fasting can give you clarity and focus. You become more sensitive to things, so it’s easier to tap into the higher realms. And together with some solitude, they make great friends for any creative work. But no matter the purpose, be sure to get plenty of rest and no stress. And you do need a safe place to do it. Plus, coming out of it is as important as fasting itself, especially going through it the first time. Re-feed with fresh fruit, use no salt for at least half of the time the fast itself lasted, and when doing it right, for an extended juice fast, you are likely to feel the lightness last for 30–90 days. Be aware that your body might not accept old ways, so follow the path only when it is a calling, and not out of interest.
